Brewery Review: Wild Mind Artisan Ales

With it’s floor to ceiling windows, unostentatious white walls and bold color accents, Wild Mind Artisan Ales is easily one of the brightest, cheeriest breweries we’ve found in Minnesota. From the inside, it would almost be easy to forget it’s practically sub-zero and the dead of winter outside, ignoring the snow just beyond the windows.

We visited Wild Mind the weekend before the Super Bowl, which was, of course, held in Minneapolis, MN, making the Cities either the place to be or the last place any Minnesotan wanted to be. We settled on somewhere in-between, getting in on Super Bowl festivities the weekend before while getting out of state entirely for Super Bowl Weekend! Before entering the craziness of Nicollet Mall’s Super Bowl Live, though, we agreed that we were going to need some liquid bravery first. Already in South Minneapolis, we opted for Wild Mind Ales which proved to be a great choice, with their impressive selection of adventurously tasty sours, saisons and ales. The abundent access of midday light was not only welcome at the end of January, but made for some fantastic photos, too, which we were happy to exploit.

The tap list was unique as it was tasty, and no wonder — they pride themselves in nontraditional beers:

At the heart of each beer is our wild Minnesota yeast, which was harvested from multiple wild fruit bushes, trees, and wildflowers from across the state by our head brewer. We focus on crafting wild, sour, farmhouse, saison, and rustic-style ales using barrel-aging and blending, and our wild ales are fermented and aged in oak foeders in our temperature-controlled wood cellar.

Wild Mind Ales is one of the breweries featured in Northern Ale Guide, and we took an opportunity to get ours stamped for a free beer.

The taproom is dog-friendly, and we saw a couple while we were there. A semi-enclosed patio with hanging lights will give us a great reason to visit again in warmer weather, and — like many breweries — they feature a great assortment of food trucks throughout the week.

Overall, we were more than impressed by Wild Mind Artisan Ale, and will definitely be making a visit again soon…probably with friends and games! You’re invited, too, so if you see us join us!
